Welcome to A Considered Life
This site is mainly about spiritual theology: the intersection of dogmatic theology, moral theology, and spiritual formation. It’s about how to live a considered, or self-examined, life for the glory of God and the good of others. For more on these themes, see my inaugural post.
My name is Luke Stamps, and I serve as Professor of Christian Theology and Director of the Masters Programs at the Clamp Divinity School of Anderson University (SC). I live with my wife and five children in Anderson, South Carolina. I have written, edited, or contributed to a number of books on theology and Christian history. My academic interests include the Trinity, the Incarnation, and Baptist history and theology. My personal interests include barbecuing, running, music, film, and Dodger baseball.
The scallop shell in the header deserves some comment. It hearkens to the story attributed to St. Augustine, in which he meets a child trying to scoop the sea, shell-by-shell, into a hole in the sand. Augustine took it as a figure of the theologian trying to conceive of the infinite God with our meager minds. All Christian theology is trying to hold the immeasurable glory of God in the “little cup” of our preaching and teaching (to quote Leontius of Byzantium).
